Ripples and Reflections by Laurie Shifrin
“Dreaming of the Tropics”by Karen Kay Buckley, this month’s door knock on Quilt Out Loud!

Dear Quilters,

This month’s Quilt Out Loud! door knock is a must-watch. I have known Karen K. Buckley for quite some years, first having met her teaching on a cruise. It was a fabulous treat to have the opportunity to visit her at her home and studio, and even more so to take you there via video.

I was surprised to discover when we were planning the show that Mark hadn’t met Karen before we busted in on her. He’d seen her, but they had never actually spoken-- which makes the door knock even more fun. I don’t think either has ever met a stranger.

There’s a saying (often strikingly true!) that people look like their dogs. The saying goes for Karen and her quilts. And come to think of it, her sewing space. All three are gorgeous through-and through.

As you are sitting in amazement watching the show, note what I picked up on: Karen has worked day after day year after year to perfect her art. It shows.

Enjoy getting to know Karen and try not to drool on her quilts. And be prepared for a major case of studio envy!

Happy quilting,
