| Welcome Message |
The Mermaid by Cathy Wiggins uses a painting technique developed by Cathy that is truly her own. She calls it MAPO, Masking and Pouring Over.
Dear Quilters,
It’s fascinating to me to see how quilters develop their own styles. Consider just two of the longarm quilters who have been on Quilt It! The Longarm Quilting Show:
The enchanted quilts of Ellen Anne Eddy are a great example. She has created a world all of her own through her quilts, a world of animals and flowers that is oh so Ellen!.
Jennifer Day has turned her exceptional photographic skills into quilts by having the photographs printed and then painting them with thread. Lots of thread! These quilts carry an impact from a distance, and are fascinating close-up to see the detail of the stitching.
This month I introduce you to Cathy Wiggins whose signature style is likewise detectable as soon as you spot one of her quilts. Her whimsical subject matter of carousel horses or underwater scenes with mermaids is distinctive, but so are the techniques she uses. She paints her quilts, and then quilts them. Watch her show this month to see how she brings realism to her quilts with her longarm machine.
Happy quilting,
Jodie

Realistic Quilting for Pictorial Quilts with Cathy Wiggins
Cathy Wiggins continues to show us how to quilt using motifs from nature. Water and sky motifs are added in this final segment of the show. She shows how easy it is to quilt water filler using wavy lines and curlicues echoing back and forth horizontally across the quilt. Her #1 hint? Keep track of the scale of the filler used and maintain it throughout the body of the quilt.
