Ripples and Reflections by Laurie Shifrin features batik fabrics. This Block of the Month project is offered by The Finishing Stitch in Littlestown, Pennsylvania.
Dear Quilters,
Have you ever seen a period fabric swatch book? To me it’s like that box of chocolates my grand parents used to send to me at camp each summer: to be savored one bite (or swatch) at a time.
This month on Quilt Out Loud! our very special guest is Bobbe (Roberta) Benvin. Bobbe became smitten with with old quilts and fabrics years ago and pretty much fell into designing quilting patterns and subsequently fabrics. See, a passion turned into a business once again!
This is what Bobbe writes about her current collection with Blue Hill Fabrics:
“Certain colors, certain prints, certain styles...together, they give us what is known as fashion. These trends in fashion make it possible to date not only the clothing that was worn, but also quilts that were made from fabrics that were popular at a given time. Each decade or, at least, each quarter-century can be identified by specific fabrics that were in demand by fashion-conscious ladies.”
Watch Quilt Out Loud! this month to hear Bobbe’s story and see where she finds her source material and goes about designing. It’s fascinating!
Happy quilting,
Jodie
