Twirly Whirly Feathers by Kimmy Brunner

This detail from Kimmy Brunner’s quilt Twirly Whirly Feathers shows the beautiful results of using her special templates and rulers for longarm stitching.

Dear Quilters,

Have you ever visited a house that is so unique it’s a lifestyle choice? This is the case with Ellie Bennett’s house.

Before I tagged along to Ellie’s for Mark’s door knock, one friend of hers had told me that she takes her camera with her when she visits. Once I walked through the door I discovered why.

The Bennetts live in a Civil War period home in Pennsylvania with all the comforts of the late 1800’s and few of today’s. But we don’t see the latter. For instance, Ellie offered coffee and then disappeared into what looked like a closet of a room and reappeared with steaming cups which she said did come from a modern coffee maker. So she does have some modern appliances, but they haven’t used the central heat they put in in the 1970’s in years and lighting is hidden in electric period-ish fixtures. It is like stepping back in time.

The best part though is that the house is a true home to her artwork. It provides the perfect backdrop for her quilts and hooked rugs to sing. The home exudes an amazing sense of place and of time standing still. What a inspiration in which to sew and hook! Tag along with Mark at Ellie's on Quilt Out Loud!

Happy quilting,

Third Time’s a Charm - Kimmy Brunner

Kimmy Brunner shows us how she draws and stitches out her designs. She uses a special adapter pencil when drawing that adds the space the hopper foot adds when stitching around a template. She shows us the Quilters Groove Pro Line Ruler which makes stitching tiny little lines brainless. Watch to learn Kimmy’s trick for marking on white fabric without leaving any telltale marks.
