Welcome Message

A close-up from one of Allie Aller’s crazy quilts. See more of her fantastic work her blog,

Dear Quilters,

If you’re not a member of or wish for friends to sample our shows, we’ve put up a sample episode from both Quilt Out Loud! and Quilt It! The Longarm Quilting Show for everyone to watch. Each is an entire episode, start to finish.

It wasn’t easy choosing which ones. I narrowed each to three and then used the eeny-meeny-miney-moe technique to decide on the winner. With Quilt Out Loud! in its fourth season and Quilt It! The Longarm Quilting Show in its third, there’s a lot of great talent from which to choose!

Happy quilting,

Divide and Design
Lisa Calle

There’s a serious affliction affecting many quilters. It’s Quilting Agoraphobia, the fear of facing wide open spaces on the quilt. Happily, there is a simple solution. It is Divide and Design, and Lisa Calle shows us how. Starting with a blank block, Lisa shoots a black and white photo and prints it out. Using a pencil and her circle and arc tools she begins drawing a pattern on overlays. By adding overlays the design becomes more intricate. If when she quilts she finds there’s too much empty space Lisa simply divides and designs some more. Using this approach the most simple of quilts can be turned into a work of art.

In Short Takes on Longarm Quilting Vicki Hoth addresses another quilter’s phobia, Tension Phobia, and proves that knowledge is the cure. When the tension is correct the stitching looks the same on both the front and back sides.
