Welcome Message |
This 19th century red and green quilt is from the extensive collection of Sue Reich, widely known quilt lecturer, researcher, appraiser and quiltmaker.
Dear Quilters,
If as they say laughter is good for our health, be sure to check out DeLoa Jones’ silly chickens on Quilting Celebrations this month. I had the pleasure of having her as my guest on Quilt It! The Longarm Quilting Show last season, and was so amused watching her create one of her chickens before our eyes. The folks at Handi Quilter were thrilled when she offered to leave her creation there and it is now hanging in the sewing studio for all to enjoy.
Our regular series, Quilt with the Stars, highlights celebrity quilters, getting to know the person in depth, including a how-to and a quilt show. Our current star is Sandy Gervais. You love her fabrics from Moda, so watch the series and get to know Sandy!
Happy summer and happy quilting,
Jodie

Modern Quilting for Modern Quilts
Angela Walters
Stitching irregularly shaped pieced blocks can be tricky as the quilting design must increase or decrease in size to fit the irregular space. Angela Walters shows us how. No feather designs here! More geometric shapes are the norm in modern quilting. These designs add texture and flow across the quilt. The quilting does not distract from the piecing but enhances the designs. Watch this episode to learn how to bring your quilting into the modern era.

Collecting Quilts: Quilts Tell a Story
Sue Reich shares a very personal story with Jodie. They are a Gold Star family, the designation for families who have lost someone in war. Sue shows a quilt presented to her by the Home of the Brave program made by women she knows, using a Civil War era pattern based on quilts made for the Sanitary Commission during that struggle. Then it’s on to the monthly book reviews and show of quilts from the books.
