Dear Quilting Friends,
When I was a travelling teacher, my favorite part of my visit to guilds was the show and tell. Ah the talent! And it always seemed to be the most modest of quilters who made the most amazing quilts. Once the quilters started lining up to show their latest, you never knew what treasure you were in for! It’s the same with Quilt It! The Longarm Quilting Show and Quilt Out Loud! Each episode I get to meet new quilters, and visit with those I already know. It’s a unique peek into their thought processes, how they have honed in on a certain technique or aspect of quilting and come up with some clever way to address it, to express themselves. Pam Clarke did just this with her Designs With Lines technique. She bridges the gap between totally marking a quilt top and working freehand, by using guides and practicing shapes. It speeds up the process and is very freeing. Michele Scott is a friend of mine, and I know her work through the patterns she does for our magazines. So, when we arrived at her house for the Quilt Out Loud! door knock, it was eye opening to see the quilt she was working on that was on her design wall, and those she showed Mark in her storage room. Quilt Out Loud! September Episode Segment 1: What's Up? Mark and Jodie arrive at Cloth & Bobbin quilt shop in the town of Narberth, Pennsylvania, where modern fabrics are the featured fare. Jodie presents a Jodie Cam of her visit to the Magic Gardens in Philadelphia. The mosaic-covered buildings and garden are reminiscent of an art quilt. Mark shares pictures of the murals he found all over the city and Jodie gives him some gifts from her visit to Independence Hall.
Segment 2: The Modern Quilt Guild A national movement started in California; The Modern Quilt Guild has now spread across the country. Initially internet based, these guilds are a combination of internet interaction and traditional in-person meetings and get-togethers. Meet two members of the Philly Modern Quilt Guild and learn what makes a quilt modern.

Quilt It! The Long Arm Quilting Show Quilting inside the lines is a technique using Designs With Lines stencils by Pam Clarke, using registration marks as a guide to help speed up machine quilting. Very little marking is required to fit a design to any size block or border. This technique can be used with any home, mid-arm, or longarm machine, speeding up the process of machine quilting for novice and experienced quilters alike.
