Summer Sun

How do we stay cool when temperatures are hitting record highs? As the summer sun continues to shine, many of us will be attending county/state fairs, taking end-of-summer vacations, and contemplating back-to-school routines. When you have the urge to take a break from the heat, go ahead and grab a cold glass of lemonade and take some time for yourself. You deserve it!

Help Quilts for Kids

Help Quilts for Kids turn tears into smiles for hospitalized kids!

Thank you to our friends at Quilts for Kids for keeping us up to date on ways we can make a difference in the lives of children. Many of you have visited Quilts for Kids to find out how you can help wrap seriously ill children in the warmth of a hand-made quilt.  In addition to making quilts and donating fabric or money, now you can help by purchasing the Special Edition Quilts for Kids QuiltCut. A portion of the sale of each Special Edition QuiltCut will be donated to help bring comfort to some of the 6 million children hospitalized each year.

Please remember the new line of Robert Kaufmann fabric called Quilts for Kids Too!, designed by Amy Schimmler, in stores now!

In 2010 Quilts for Kids distributed over 20,000 quilts to hospitalized kids, all hand-made with love by volunteers.  These quilts make a tremendous difference in the lives of the patients and their families!  If you already sew for Quilts for Kids, thank you!  If not, please visit www.quiltsforkids.org to learn more.
A Toerrific Tip!

With summer in full swing, many of us are painting our nails and use toe separators. This user-friendly tip is from Judi K. from Portland, OR. Click here for more quilting tips.

Bobbin Keepers
Toe separators used for pedicures are perfect for holding bobbins and keeping thread from unraveling. They stack neatly, and you can see the thread colors at a glance.

What's New on Quilty?

Pre-Sashing: A Block's Best Friend

If your pattern calls for sashing strips, you can make your life easier with a little pre-sashing. If your quilt doesn't have sashing in the design -- or if you're just wingin' the whole thing -- you might decide it's the perfect way to kick your quilt up a notch. Sashing is an easy way to add dimension to your quilt and when you pre-sash, you have fewer long seams to sew. Learn about sashing and pre-sashing on this episode of Quilty. Mary demonstrates with her Quilts of Valor quilt -- you might be doubly inspired!
