Chit-Chat'n About This 'n That'n

Be sure to visit us on Facebook at Now that Fall Market is over, it's time to get on with another important task here at Fons & Porter - '29 Quilts to Go' project. When our publisher heard from her husband  that the six-foot tall soldiers in his infantry division were issued the standard 5-foot something sleeping bags – we decided there was something we could do about it – send them a little extra warmth and comfort from home. As of today, a few of the 29 flannel quilt tops are ready for the long-arm; several are in various other stages of production; and a few stragglers are still just stacks of blocks on the cutting table. Our goal is to get all of the quilts to our 'adopted' infantry division in Afghanistan, in time for Christmas. You can follow our progress on Facebook, and at the same time, you can share with other quilters about the kind of projects you are working on!

Sew and Tell
Baby X2
submitted by Jacquei Seals, Fort Wayne, IN

There's two sets of twins in one family that I had to make quilts for---one set was due the end of November, but came early due to an emergency c-section on October 2. But, since I had time to make the other set of twins' quilts that are due the end of December, I chose the Odd Fellows Blocks (funny name for twin girls, huh?!)

Made Especially for Me
submitted by Remona Combs, Mammoth Spring, AR

My mom made this lap quilt for me based on your Yo-Yo Basket Pillow design from the May/June 2007 issue. It is made and quilted completely by hand, not a stitch of machine work on it anywhere. The reason she made the quilt was because her mother made lots of things over the years. She was very skilled with fabric and thread, but my mom does not have one thing she sewed that was made specifically for her. All of us who have made items for a certain person understand that a part of the process of crafting the item is the thoughts that pass through our minds of the person it is for.
